Why this cluster
Why Guangzhou, rather than somewhere bigger.
Guangzhou brings trading infrastructure, cosmetics regulation familiarity and the Canton Fair — the city’s twice-yearly trade fair. Dongguan brings the factories — injection moulding, garment sewing floors, furniture and electronics assembly.
The practical advantage for a private-label founder is that formulation, packaging, printing and assembly are all within one working radius. That shortens the loop from a design change to a physical sample considerably.
Both of our industry guides are rooted here: beauty and personal-care packaging, and toys, gifts and commodities. If you are building a private label in either, this is the cluster your supplier almost certainly sits in.
Compared with Shenzhen, suppliers here are usually more open to being visited and filmed. Compared with Ningbo, they are usually more flexible on quantity.

Raw material store, mixing, filling and QC. Clean rooms are usually off limits; the surrounding line often is not.
DAY 2 · TRANSFER
Move to Dongguan
About an hour by road, timed to avoid rush hour rather than fitted around a meeting.
DAY 3 · DONGGUAN
Tooling and injection
Mould store, machine floor and assembly. This is where subcontracting becomes visible if it is happening.
DAY 4 · WRAP
Negotiation and handover
MOQ, tooling ownership and lead times settled with someone who can agree them.

Seasonal windows
- 01.Best months: March–June and September–November.
- 02.Avoid the Canton Fair weeks in April and October unless that is why you are coming — hotels and factories are both stretched.
- 03.Chinese New Year closes both cities; garment and toy lines are busiest beforehand.
- 04.Christmas toy production runs roughly July–September, when Dongguan floors are least available for visits.
When a visit wastes your money
- Assuming the packaging supplier and the product manufacturer are one company. They rarely are.
- Coming during Canton Fair weeks without planning for it. Availability and hotel prices both move.
- Visiting toy factories during the peak Christmas build. Everything is running, nothing has time for a camera.
